Launched in Miami in 2001, the Zumba dance-fitness workout has taken the world by storm. Millions of people of all ages attend Zumba classes all over the world, dancing and moving to Latin-inspired music and having fun while losing weight and getting in shape. Because demand for Zumba continues to grow, becoming a class instructor allows you to build or grow your own fitness business and stay in shape yourself. Even if you do not have a background in fitness or exercise, you can still earn your Zumba certification.

Meet the general requirements. Zumba instructors must be at least 18 years old, and in good physical health.

Attend Zumba classes as a student. Not only will attending classes give you a feel for how classes are run, but you’ll also learn the basic Zumba workout steps that are the foundation of any Zumba class. Try a variety of classes with different instructors to get ideas and inspiration for your own routines.

Register for an instructor class in your area. To find a class, visit the official Zumba website, click on “Instructor Training” and fill in the form to find a training course near you. Choose either the Zumba Basic or the Jump Start Gold training course to start.

Complete the eight-hour Zumba training course. The Basic Zumba training course teaches you the four basic Zumba rhythms and how to put them together into a class routine. The Jump Start Gold Class teaches you how to adapt the basic Zumba moves for older adults.

Enroll in the Zumba Instructor Network. Members of the ZIN receive marketing assistance, continuing education opportunities and access to specialty instructor training courses.
