How to Get to the Fourth Gym Leader in "Pokemon Ruby"
Players must journey through the fictional Hoenn region, capturing and training Pokemon and battling their way through Pokemon gyms to earn badges in "Pokemon Ruby Version." While several of these gyms are straightforward buildings, the fourth Gym in Lavaridge Town features a distinctly maze-like structure that can confuse a trainer and have them wandering in circles through it's steam-filled halls. However, the system of carefully placed vents make navigation through the maze possible, and lead to a showdown with Flannery, the Gym's leader.

Enter Lavaridge Gym and battle all of the trainers in the first room.

Step on the vent midway through the room to the left of the entrance. This takes you to a large area in the basement that features a wall to the north blocking access to most of the other vents.

Walk south through the room to find a vent in the southern half of the room on the left side. Step on the vent to advance to Flannery's room.

Challenge and defeat Flannery. When she is defeated, step on the vent in the bottom right corner of the room to return to the entrance of the Lavaridge Gym.

Step on the vent to the left of the vent you entered with, which takes you to another room with a trainer.

Challenge and defeat the trainer. There are two vents in this room, but only one is real; the other vent is a trainer in disguise. To face the disguised trainer, find the vent in the bottom left corner of the room. To advance to the next room, step on the vent in the top left corner of the room.

Step on the vent in the upper right portion of this room to advance.

Challenge and defeat the trainer. There is another disguised trainer in the room who appears as a vent in the upper right corner; challenge the trainer if desired. To advance to the next room, step on the vent in the middle left portion of the room.

Walk north to the vent in the upper right corner of the room and step on it to advance to the next room.

Challenge and defeat the trainer in this room. There is a disguised trainer in the bottom right corner; challenge the trainer if desired. To advance to the next room, step on the vent in the upper right corner of the room.

Walk to the right through the room and step on the vent in the far right corner of the room to advance to the next room.

Challenge and defeat the trainer in this room. A disguised trainer is located in the bottom right corner; challenge the trainer if desired. Step on the vent in the bottom left corner of the room to advance to the next room.

Tips & Warnings
As long as the trainers don't see you and you don't approach the disguised trainers, there is no need to fight most of the trainers in this gym. However, fighting the trainers does provide valuable experience and money, and gives you an idea of what you can expect when you face Flannery.
Be careful around the disguised trainers. If you approach them, they will ambush you and you will have to battle them whether you want to or not.
Do not step on the vent in the bottom right corner of Flannery's room until after you've beaten Flannery. If you step on the vent before beating Flannery, you'll have to navigate the entire Gym again to get back to her.
