Instructions

    • 1

Sketch the shapes for your cupcake pillow on two pieces of paper; a piece of printer paper will give you enough room to create a template for a small throw pillow, while an unfolded piece of newspaper will give you enough space to make a considerably larger pillow. Draw a billowy dollop of frosting on one piece of paper, and draw a rectangular or trapezoidal shape for the base of your cupcake on the other piece of paper. Cut out your sketches with scissors.

    • 2

Fold each of your two felt sheets in half. Place the frosting cutout in the center of one felt sheet, and place the base cutout in the center of the other. Trace the outlines of the cutouts onto the felt, or simply cut around the sketches.

    • 3

Assemble your shapes to form two separate cupcakes. Arrange the frosting pieces so that they slightly overlap the bases. Hand-stitch these pieces together with a needle and thread, or use a sewing machine.

    • 4

Lay the two cupcake pieces on top of one another so that they are perfectly aligned. Pin the edges to secure the pieces in place. Sew them together with a needle and thread or a sewing machine, leaving a seam allowance of about 5/8 inch. Leave an opening in the bottom that is large enough for you to turn the pillow right side out and fit your stuffing at the end.

    • 5

Turn the stitched pillow right side out and begin filling it with pillow stuffing. Add as much stuffing as you like to the pillow. Hand-stitch the opening at the bottom of the pillow with a needle and thread.

    • 6

Add decorations to the cupcake. Glue or sew beads or bits of leftover felt to create sprinkles on the frosting, and paint or stitch vertical lines on the base of the cupcake to give the impression of a wrapper.
