How to Make Flat Panels With a Knifty Knitter Loom
The Knifty Knitter comes in circular or rectangular shapes that are commonly used to create tubular knitting projects like hats, sweaters and socks. If you enjoy loom knitting but want to expand your project list, knit flat panels for scarves, blankets or patchwork squares. Rather than learning a new technique, you only need to break the habit of working in a continuous circle.

1
Secure the end of the yarn by wrapping it around the outer post on the loom.
-
2
Begin wrapping each post once in a clockwise direction working right to left. This is known as an e-wrap because, from above, the yarn makes an upside down cursive "E."
-
-
3
Continue wrapping until you have covered the desired number of posts for your pattern. If you are use the full length of the loom, whether circular or rectangular, stop when you have come back around to the first post. Do not wrap the first post again as you would when creating a tube.
-
4
Turn and wrap each post again counter-clockwise working left to right back toward the first post. The last post only has one e-wrap, while all of the other posts have two.
-
5
Wrap the loose yarn around the outer post of the loom to secure the yarn.
-
6
Place the hook of the knitting tool under the bottom loop and pull it over the top of the post, leaving one e-wrap on the post. Repeat for all posts except the last post. You only cast off the last post every other pass because it takes two passes to create two e-wraps.
-
7
Complete a single pass of clockwise e-wraps working right to left, secure the yarn and cast off according to step 6.
-
8
Complete a single pass of counter-clockwise e-wraps working left to right, secure the yarn and cast off according to step 6.
-
9
Repeat steps 7 and 8 until you have created a panel of the desired length.
