Collect seashells to attain a beach ambiance at home.

Bring the beach into your home by creating wall decor pieces, such as shell-encrusted mirrors, or create beach-themed sculpture out of driftwood. Instructions

  1. Driftwood Sculpture

    • 1

Rinse a sturdy piece of driftwood under water to remove all traces of sand. Any size driftwood will do, depending on how large you want the sculpture to be. The piece should be thick and be able to stand on its own, with preferably a flat top.

    • 2

Glue broken pieces of shells around the perimeter of your larger driftwood piece using hot glue. Allow to dry for five minutes.

    • 3

Use hot glue to attach other nautical decorative items to the top of the driftwood. Glue assorted pieces of beach glass, shells and shell pieces, beach pinecones, dried seaweed, broken sand dollars, dried beach seed pods and any other nautical items you would like to incorporate. Allow all pieces to dry on the driftwood for about 10 minutes before displaying your artwork.

    Beach-Themed Mirror

    • 4

Use a plain wooden mirror for this decor project. The color of the wood does not matter. Use stained wood or painted wood mirrors in "beachy" colors, such as light blue, green or white.

    • 5

Affix white shells only to the left side of the frame using hot glue. Cover the entire frame side in white shells. Allow the glue to dry for 10 minutes.

    • 6

Attach pink shells the right side of the mirror with hot glue. Once the entire left side has been covered in shells, allow the glue to dry for 10 minutes.

    • 7

Attach blue-tinted shells to the bottom of the frame and purple shells to the top with hot glue. Allow the blue shell side to dry completely for 10 minutes before starting on the pink side. Hang the mirror after the glue has dried.

Tips & Warnings

  • Beach-themed mirror decorating alternatives include encrusting the frame completely with beach glass or driftwood, or using each side of the frame for a different type of nautical decor, such as one side featuring shells and another with beach glass.
