How to Make a Bull Out of Lumber
Crafting homemade toys is a cost effective way to fill a playroom for children. Making a bull out of standard lumber, for example, takes approximately one hour and provides for an active weekend project. After your toy is shaped and cut, be sure you condition the wood to hold whatever color of paint or stain you desire. Selecting a non-toxic wood stain or paint ensures the object is safe for a toddler who may put the toy into his mouth.

3
Cut out the bull shape with a coping saw. Smooth all sides and edges of the bull with 100 grit sand paper. Wipe the bull clean with a tack cloth. Repeat the sanding and cleaning process with 220 grit paper and a second tack cloth. The two sanding sessions ready the surface for wood stain application.

4
Take the bull into a well-ventilated work area. Coat the bull with non-toxic wood stain using a synthetic fiber brush. Allow two hours for the bull to dry.
-
5
Paint the bull with solvent-free acrylic paint, as you see fit. Paint eyes or hooves onto the bull, for example. Allow another two hours for the bull to dry before handling or displaying.
