How to Make a Bouquet Out of Plumerias

How to Make a Bouquet Out of Plumerias thumbnail
Plumeria are broad tropical flowers.

Though some people include plumeria in mixed bouquets, florists typically arrange these tropical flowers in single-flower bouquets. A bunch of flowers is far less expensive than a professionally-arranged bouquet. You can save a lot of money by crafting your own bouquet. The key to putting a bouquet together is to build incrementally and work with the flower's individual qualities. With a little time, you can artfully arrange your own plumeria bouquet.

  • Floral wire
  • Wire cutters

Instructions

    • 1

Cut 9-inch long pieces of floral wire with wire cutters. Cut one piece of wire for each flower.

    • 2

Hold a piece of floral wire against the stem of a plumeria blossom so that the wire and stem are parallel to each other.

    • 3

Place the loose end of a roll of floral tape around the stem and wire, beneath the petals. Wrap the tape in a downward spiral around the stem and wire until you reach the end of the wire. Angle the tape as much as you can without leaving any stem or wire visible, to cover space as quickly as possible.

    • 4

Repeat Step 3 until your have taped each flower to a piece of wire.

    • 5

Hold three flowers in your hand. Add additional stems one-by-one around the bouquet. Plumeria bouquets are round customarily. Add the rest of the plumeria to create a circular bouquet.

    • 6

Slip a rubber band around the end of the stems. Slip it only 1 to 2 inches away from the ends. Double the rubber band. Slide the tight rubber band up the taped stems to the spot where you are holding the bouquet.

    • 7

Set the bouquet down once you have secured it with the rubber band.

    • 8

Center the ribbon on the underside of the stem handle. Leave the bouquet on your work surface as you begin wrapping the ribbon.

    • 9

Wrap the ribbon around the stems at least two or three times. Angle the ribbon so that you cover a broad section of the stems. Tie the ribbon in a knot or bow. Trim any excess ribbon.

Tips & Warnings

  • The intended size of the bouquet dictates the number of stems you need. Plumeria bouquets are typically small. Twenty blooms should make a nosegay and 50 blooms should yield a moderately sized bridal bouquet.
