How to Access the CMOS Battery on a Panasonic CF-W7 thumbnail
Two types of screwdrivers are used for this project.

The Panasonic CF-W7 is a personal notebook computer sold under Panasonic's Toughbook brand. The CMOS battery provides the power needed to store data in the CMOS memory when the computer is not turned on. Eventually, the CMOS battery will need to be replaced and this requires opening up the CF-W7. This project should take about 10 minutes and the only tools needed are two small screwdrivers.

Instructions

    • 1

      Turn off the Panasonic CF-W7 notebook and close the lid. Unplug the AC adapter cable.

      Turn the notebook face down. Press the battery release tabs to unlock the battery. Remove the battery from its compartment.

      Remove the screws from the base of the notebook.

    • 4

      Turn the CF-W7 upright and open the lid as far as it will go. Lift the keyboard up and toward the palm rest. Rest the keyboard upside-down along the palm rest.

      Disconnect the keyboard cable from its socket in the motherboard. Set the keyboard aside.

      Remove the two screws at the base of the display. Remove the screws from the metal strip covering part of the motherboard. Lift the metal strip out of the CF-W7.

      Pry the CMOS battery out of its compartment with a small flat-blade screwdriver. Disconnect the battery cable connector.

Tips & Warnings

  • Reassemble the Panasonic notebook by performing the above steps in reverse order.
