DIY Fascinator Feather Comb
Fascinators are a high-fashion cross between a hat and headband typically embellished with flowers, netting, ribbon or gems. A fascinator is a striking accessory that is conveniently straightforward in composition. These small accessories often carry hefty price tags. However, you can make fascinators with a hair comb and minimal supplies. Whether you aim to create a stark white fascinator as a bridal accessory or a brightly-hued fascinator with radiating feathers, you can assemble it quickly and inexpensively at home.
Things You'll Need
- Hair comb (any size and color)
- Flat feathers (enough to cover comb base)
- Scissors
- Hot glue
- Netting, 12-by-6 inches
- Rhinestones, if desired
- Small feathers, any type, if desired
Instructions
-
-
1
Apply a narrow line of hot glue to the thick base of the comb from which the teeth radiate.
-
2
Press the edge of the netting into the glue. Position the netting on the side of the base opposite the teeth. Curve the netting as you glue it, if that is how you would like it to appear on the finished product. Trim any corners of the netting that extend across the base, over the teeth.

3
Place flat feathers on the work surface in front of you. Use enough to cover the comb base. Trim the quills of the feathers so that there is no bare quill remaining on the feather.
-
4
Apply a narrow line of hot glue to the base of the comb over the netting. Press the feathers into the glue. Apply enough feathers to obscure the base of the comb completely. Position the feathers so that the quills run in the same direction as the teeth of the comb.
-
5
Apply rhinestones on-top of the feathers with hot glue, if desired.
-
6
Add additional feathers, if desired. Feathers may radiate in any direction or point upward, according to your preference. Hide the quills of additional feathers at the base of the comb, under the plumage of the flat feathers.

Tips & Warnings
To support the weight of the embellishments you should use a hair comb accessory that is about 3 or 4 inches wide.
