How to Close Metal Ventilation Conduits
A forced air heating and cooling system uses two sets of ducts to move air around a building. The supply duct work delivers the conditioned air to the rooms and the return ducts bring the air back to the furnace. These duct systems a made from metal ventilation conduits connected together to provide the air paths through the building. If you want to terminate a ventilation conduit you need to install an end cap and seal the joint. Does this Spark an idea?

Push the ventilation end cap onto the end of the metal ventilation conduit with your hands.

Secure the end cap with three self taping screws through the side of the end cap and into the metal duct work.

Apply mastic around the end cap's joint with a paint brush so that there are no gaps in the cap/duct joint.

Tips & Warnings
Be careful not to cut your hands on the sharp metal duct work. Wearing leather gloves is a wise idea.
