How to Clamp a Hose Using Wire

How to Clamp a Hose Using Wire thumbnail
Wire can be used in place of a hose clamp.

It is often useful to clamp a hose to a nipple to ensure the hose does not pop off under pressure. Usually, a hose clamp is used that fits over the diameter of the hose. As the hose is put on the nipple, the clamp is pushed over and is tightened down. This provides a leak-proof seal. If a hose clamp is not available, wire can be used instead. Instructions

    • 1

Position the hose over the hose nipple and ensure there is at least half an inch of hose covering the nipple.

    • 2

Take a piece of wire approximately six inches in length and position the middle of the wire under the section of hose that is on the nipple.

    • 3

Wrap the wire ends up and around the hose towards each other. Use the pliers to grab each end of the wire.

    • 4

Pull each end in an opposite direction until they make a tight clamp on the hose. Begin to twist the wire tightly around itself using the pliers to maintain tightness. Repeat this four-five times until there is a tight clamping effect on the hose.
