How to Change the Oven Element in a GE Range
All General Electric (GE) ranges equipped with an oven have a baking heating element located on the bottom of the oven’s interior. The element heats up and glows red while in use. If you notice that your oven is not producing enough heat or is not producing any heat at all, it may be your baking heating element. Replacing the element yourself only takes a few minutes, and you will not have to hire a repair technician. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions

1
Switch the breaker switch for your GE range in the electrical breaker box to the “Off” position.
-
2
Remove the baking racks from your GE oven by sliding them out.
-
-
3
Locate the mounting screws on the back wall of the oven. The baking heating element attaches to the oven by the screws, so follow the element to the back wall of the oven to locate the screws.
-
4
Unscrew the screws, using a Phillips-head screwdriver, and then pull the baking heating element out from the oven as far as the oven wires will allow. The oven wires connect to the ends of the baking heating element and provide power to the element.
-
5
Unplug the oven wires from the ends of the baking heating element. Some GE models have screws holding the wires in place, while other models have slip-over spade connectors that hold the wires in place. Unscrew the wires with a Phillips-head screwdriver, or use needle-nose pliers to remove the spade connectors.
-
6
Remove the baking heating element from your GE oven and insert the new element.
-
7
Connect the wires to the new baking heating element. Screw the wires back in place, or reattach the slip-over spade connectors.
-
8
Insert the screws back into the mounting bracket against the back wall, and then screw them back in place.
-
9
Turn the power back on to your GE range.
