Instructions

    • 1

Thoroughly clean the wall that you are going to cover with chalkboard paint. Repair any holes or scratches on the surface of the wall.

    • 2

Cover the edges of woodwork on the wall with painter's tape to prevent the primer and paint from adhering to the wood surfaces.

    • 3

Coat the wall with a layer of stain blocking latex primer according to the directions on the product label. If you are using a spray chalkboard paint, consult a professional salesperson to see if the primer is compatible with it. Allow to dry thoroughly according to product instructions.

    • 4

Paint the wall using a roller, sponge brush or spray can. Coat the wall with an even layer of good quality chalkboard paint. Add a second layer for a longer-lasting surface.

    • 5

Dry the chalkboard paint for at least one full week before conditioning it for use.

    • 6

Condition the chalkboard painted wall by rubbing a piece of chalk over the surface. Hold the chalk between your thumb, ring finger and pinkie to apply it horizontally to the painted wall. Rub chalk over the entire surface.

    • 7

Wash the conditioning chalk off of the chalkboard paint surface with a damp cloth. It is now ready for use.

Tips & Warnings

  • Read the warnings on the primer and paint product cans to determine if your child should sleep in the room before the chalkboard wall is complete and conditioned.
