Instructions on How to Troubleshoot the Fluidmaster Pro45 Toilet Fill Valve

Instructions on How to Troubleshoot the Fluidmaster Pro45 Toilet Fill Valve thumbnail
Fluidmaster's Pro45 fill valve combines the toilet float and ballcock in a single unit.

The Fluidmaster Pro series is marketed toward professional plumbers and generally offers higher build quality and components than the company's lower priced consumer line. The Pro45 Fill Valve replaces both the standard float and ballcock in a traditional toilet. Its height adjusts from 9 inches to 14 inches, making the valve adaptable to a wide range of original equipment applications. The kit includes an adjustable tank flapper valve. Because the Pro45 is intended to be installed by professionals, it is packaged without instructions. However, full instructions can be downloaded from Fluidmaster's Pro website. Instructions

  1. Valve Won't Shut Off

    • 1

Flush debris from the float valve seal if the valve won't shut off.

    • 2

Turn off the water supply to the toilet.

    • 3

Lift the float arm, press down on the valve cap and turn the cap 1/8 turn counterclockwise to remove it.

    • 4

Hold a container over the valve to contain splashing and turn the water supply on and off several times. Leave the water turned off.

    • 5

Place the valve top back on the valve. Push the valve down to engage the mounting lugs and turn the valve 1/8 turn clockwise into the locked position.

    • 6

Turn the water supply back on.

Fill Valve Turns On and Off During Non-Use

    • 7

Check for a leak at the flapper in the bottom of the tank.

    • 8

Verify that the flapper is correctly aligned with the flush valve.

    • 9

Inspect the flush valve seat for corrosion or damage. Repair with a flush valve repair retrofit, if necessary.

    • 10

Make sure the flow from the refill tube is positioned above the overflow pipe and not inserted down into the overflow pipe. Inserting the refill tube into the overflow pipe will siphon water out of the tank and cause the valve to turn on and off.
