How to Decorate Raised Seating in Front of Windows
Raised seating is generally associated with bay windows. The bench-type seating is built into the window nook and will feature cushioned seating or display a wood finish. The bench could have a lid that lifts for hidden storage or shelving beneath the seat for books. Make the seating a focal point of the room with attractive decorating ideas. Select a cushion size for the seating. Choose one long cushion or use two or three smaller cushions. Coordinate the colors with the window treatments.

Display an assortment of throw pillow sizes. Use a large pillow as a back support while reading. Smaller pillows work well to prop up your feet or place beneath your knees. Place a long bolster pillow on the window sill to block cold air from seeping into the house during colder months. The bolster will appear decorative but will serve a dual purpose.

Drape a warm throw at one end of the seating for a cozy snuggle on chilly days.

Hang a sconce on the wall to highlight the seating and provide a reading light. Use a three-way bulb to control the amount of lighting in the area.
