How to Become a Bouncer in California
Bouncers aren't typically required to have specific training, but prior experience helps. If you don't have prior experience, having certain personality traits is beneficial if you want to become a successful bouncer in California, or anywhere else for that matter. Bouncers must have the ability to enforce a bar's rules in an authoritative, calm and professional manner. Ultimately, bouncers are charged with protecting the bar for which they work. As such, if you want to get a job as a bouncer, it's important to impress on your prospective employer that you will always keep the bar's best interests in mind.

1
Visit bars and clubs that interest you. You definitely want to work for a bar, or nightclub, you like. Consider whether you want to work for a large nightclub or a smaller bar. If you decide you'd prefer to work for a large nightclub, realize you'll be working crowd control, which requires understanding the club's maximum capacity.

2
Speak to people who already work as bouncers. Ask questions about how they obtained the position, what they think certain bars or nightclubs are looking for in a bouncer and what traits they believe employers are looking for.
-
-
3
Research California laws. Bouncers must sometimes use force, particularly if patrons are intoxicated or confrontational. Know the parameters of California law regarding how much force is acceptable.
-
4
Check out the employment section of local papers. Look for help wanted signs in bars and nightclubs to see who's hiring. Visit websites with employment listings specific to your area in California.
