How to Measure Panel Room Dividers
Panel room dividers -- sometimes called "privacy screens" or just "screens" -- are free-standing room decorations made up of several individual panels that have been hinged together to create a folding screen. These screens are typically uniform in dimension but can be somewhat tricky to measure while they are standing up. This difficulty can be compounded if it is impossible or impractical to lay the screen down for a full measurement. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Measure the width of a single panel on the divider and make a note of it.
-
2
Measure out the height of that same panel. If the panel is not squared off on the top, take the measurement from the highest point on the panel.
-
-
3
Multiply the two numbers -- height and width -- together to get the total square footage of the one panel.
-
4
Multiply the square footage by the number of panels in the divider to come up with the total square footage of the entire piece.
-
5
Multiply the width of a single panel by the number of panels to determine the total width of the divider.
-
6
Stand the divider up and position it so it appears as you desire. Hook the measuring tape onto the farthest panel corner. Extend the tape out horizontally until it crosses over the panel corner farthest away. The resulting number is approximately how much horizontal space the panel will occupy when placed as intended.
