Your face is the first thing people see. This is why seemingly large pores, oily skin, and whiteheads are an embarrassing confidence spoiler. When sebum collects in the hair follicles on your face, clogged pores occur, creating unsightly whiteheads and making pores appear enlarged. Miracle treatments and prescription medications may provide some results, but those results can come with potential side effects and high cost. Instead of forcing your skin into compliance with extreme or costly treatments, first try treating your skin to something simple and straight-forward. A consistent routine that gently encourages skin into a healthy state is better for your body and your pocket book.

Things You'll Need

  • Gentle oil free facial cleanser
  • Large bowl
  • Hot Water
  • Towel
  • Salicylic acid cream

Wash your face with the facial cleanser. Rub gently in a circular motion for several minutes to work the cleanser into your skin.

Rinse face with cool water and pat dry with the towel.

Fill large bowl with hot water and bend over placing your face near the surface of the water.

Cover your head with the towel to create a mini "steam room" for your face. Stay in this position for at least 5 minutes. The steam will loosen the white heads and open pores, readying them for the salicylic acid cream application.

Rinse face again with cool water and pat dry. Let skin air dry for another three minutes.

Apply salicylic acid cream to face. Take your time and again rub gently in a circular motion for about three minutes.

Tips & Warnings

  • Change your pillow case every other night.
  • Use a pore refining mask twice a week to supplement your skincare routine.
  • Avoid squeezing skin or "popping" whiteheads as this can cause scarring and introduces bacteria into open skin.
  • Avoid touching your face with your hands during the day to reduce bacteria on your skin.
