How to Make Your Own Pixel Character
Pixel art is a form of digital art; the images that are created are made with imaging software and edited at a pixel level. Graphics used in video and computer games are mostly pixel art. You can use imaging software such as Microsoft Paint, which comes installed on many PCs, to create your own pixel art character.

1
Open your imaging or drawing program on your computer. Maximize the window so that you will be able to see the whole screen as you work.
-
2
Use the program's Pencil or Brush tool to draw the basic outline of the character. For example, if you only want to draw the face, draw an oval shape. If you want to make a character with a full body, draw a head, torso, arms and legs.

3
Fill in details, such as the character's eyes, ears, nose and mouth, with the Pencil or Brush tool. Add the kind of clothing you want your character to have, such as a dress or jeans and T-shirt.
-
4
Color your character, using the Fill effect. You can choose from the color palette the imaging program provides, or you can click on the option that shows a wider range of colors and choose which shades you want to work with.
-
5
Shade the character with the Pencil or Brush tool. Use colors that are one shade darker to create shadows and use colors one shade lighter to give the illusion of light.
-
6
Zoom in and use the Eraser tool to smooth out any flaws in your lines.
-
7
Save your work; you can choose to save your image as a PNG, JPEG, or GIF file. Choose the format to save the character in based on what you plan to use it for. For example, save the character in PNG format if you want to use it for your personal website, or save it as a JPEG if you want to send it via email or use it on your computer.
