How to Connect 12mm X 1mm Thread to 3/16 Vinyl Tubing

Coupling metric fasteners with SAE or standard American tubing requires a bit of thought and planning to complete the job without incurring any leaks in the coupler. When connecting a 12mm-by-1mm threaded coupler with 3/16-inch vinyl tubing, keep in mind that 3/16-inch tubing is 4.7625mm when converted to metric. This may help you when locating a coupler to connect the fastener to the hose. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Select a coupler with a 3/16-inch or 4.7625 mm barbed-hose coupler on one end and a 12mm-by-1mm threaded end. If the fastener you want to secure to the vinyl tubing has female threads, select a coupler with male threads. If the coupler you plan to use has male threads, select a coupler with female threads.

    • 2

Wrap plumber’s tape around the male thread on either the fastener or the coupler. The plumber’s tape helps to prevent leaks between the threads.

    • 3

Thread the coupler and the fastener together and tighten the two with a wrench.

    • 4

Press the barbed end of the coupler as far into the vinyl tubing as possible and then slide a metal band clamp over the vinyl tubing and center it over the section with the barbed coupler pressed into it.

    • 5

Tighten the band clamp with a screwdriver to secure the barbed coupler into the hose.
