How to Make Origami Kissing Swans
Learn to make origami kissing swans to replicate common towel origami design with traditional paper origami. Origami is the art of folding paper to create various objects or animals. It is an art form tpopularized in Japan and the first records of it date from the Heian Period, between the year 794 and 1185. Originally, it was the pastime of the social elite, then became more accessible and widespread as paper became cheaper. Origami folding requires precision and concentration, and clear instructions are important to create more complex pieces. Make two separate origami swans and put them together to make origami kissing swans.

1
Align a piece of paper in front of you so the straight, bottom edge is closest to you and the page looks like a square. Fold the page so the two opposite corners meet each other. Unfold the page and adjust the paper so the large crease you just made runs vertically down the center. The corners of the page should now point directly up, down, left and right and the straight edges link them diagonally.
-
2
Fold the bottom left and bottom right edges in so they meet the center line and the entire piece forms a kite shape. The left and right corners should touch at the vertical center line of the piece of paper. Turn the kite shape over.

3
Measure the length of the top right edge of the kite shape, from the point at the top of the kite to the one at the right. Split this edge into three equal sections, according to your measurements, and mark the points with a pencil. Draw a straight line from these points down to the bottom corner of the kite shape to split the right half into three sections.
-
4
Fold the outer third along the line around the back of the kite shape first, and then bring the edge you created in to the central line with the other, inward fold. Repeat this process on the left hand side. You now have a much thinner kite shape that looks like a feather.
-
5
Fold the thin, pointed end up to the top. Make the fold slightly more than halfway up the feather shape. The tip of the thin end will extend just over the top of the thicker end. Fold the thin tip back on itself, so it points downward. This forms the head of the swan. Fold the entire swan in half, so the wider edges meet at the back (the opposite side to the head). Pull the head and neck away from the body, angle the head and unfold the body.

6
Repeat this process to make the second origami swan. When you have completed this, place them together to form two kissing origami swans. Arrange the swans so the tips of the beaks touch.
