How to Remove Tubes on a Fender Bassman 135
The Bassman 135 is a classic Fender guitar amp built between 1977 and 1983. The tubes are made of a glass housing that protects the internal tube components. Eventually the tubes will burn out and must be replaced. There are six total tubes in the Bassman 135 model: two smaller pre-amp tubes and four larger power tubes. The tubes are accessible from the back of the Bassman behind a plastic guard that protects the tubes.

1
Turn the amp head around or walk to the back side of the amp to see the exposed tubes. The two smaller pre-amp tubes are on the right while the four larger power tubes are on the left.
-
2
Unscrew the plastic tube guard from the amp to gain access to the tubes. There are four screws in total holding the guard in place, one for each corner.
-
-
3
Pull off the metal tube shield covering one of the smaller pre-amp tubes.
-
4
Wiggle the tube in a circular motion as you pull the tube out of its socket slowly. Be careful not to twist the tube or pull it out too fast or you can damage the pin holes in the amp. Repeat this step for the second pre-amp tube.
-
5
Push down the metal clip holding one of the power tubes in place. The metal clip is at the base of the tube where it connects to the amp.
-
6
Pull the tube straight out of the socket, wiggling it a little as you slowly pull it out. Repeat this for the other three tubes.
