How to Get Rid of Information in a Facebook Profile

How to Get Rid of Information in a Facebook Profile thumbnail
Facebook information can be hidden from people using the Privacy Settings menu.

Your Facebook profile is an evolving entity, changing as your life changes. Fortunately, editing the information in your profile is quick and painless. Your friends may see a story in their News Feeds when you change the information in your profile, and a story will appear on your profile wall. Changes made to your Facebook profile take effect immediately, and once you delete information it cannot be retrieved.

Instructions

    • 1

Sign in to your Facebook account and click the "Profile" link in the banner at the top of any Facebook screen.

    • 2

Click the gray "Edit Profile" button in the top right corner of your profile.

    • 3

Use the tabs in the left column of the screen to located the information you want to remove. Information is grouped by type, such as Basic Information and Arts and Entertainment.

    • 4

Highlight text within a field, such as the About Me section, and hit the "Delete" key to remove it. Most information is removed by clicking the "x" next to it -- information with an "x" for deletion includes your employer, schools and activities. Get rid of music, movies and interests represented by a thumbnail image by clicking once on the image and then hitting "Delete."

    • 5

Click the blue "Save Changes" button at the bottom of each page before you move onto the next tab.
