How to Cycle the Thermostat on a Maytag MDE9700
The cycle thermostat on the Maytag MDE9700 regulates the operating temperature. When the temperature inside the dryer is less than 155 degrees Fahrenheit, the cycle thermostat will have resistance. This allows the heating element to heat the dryer when turned on. When the cycle thermostat surpasses 155 F, the thermostat turns off the heating element to prevent the dryer from overheating. The best way to know if your cycle thermostat works is to test it with an ohmmeter. Does this Spark an idea?

-
5
Pull the purple wire off the right terminal. Leave the red wire attached to the right terminal.
-
6
Place the red lead of your ohmmeter on the terminal for the purple wire, and place the black lead of the ohmmeter on the terminal for the red wire.
-
7
Inspect the reading. If the reading shows zero, the thermostat works properly. If the reading shows infinity, the thermostat does not work.
