How to Make Bongos From Plants
Bongo drums originated as part of Changui and Son, music styles in Cuba during the late 1800s. Although bongo drums originated in Cuba, they are played throughout the world. Bongo drums are played with your hands instead of using drum sticks. If you want to make some music at home, make a bongo drum from plants. Use fresh leaves with a length of at 6 inches as the drum pad of your bongo drum. Find the rest of the items around your home.
Things You'll Need
- Oatmeal carton with lid
- Empty container with lid
- Fresh banana or palm leaves, at least 6 inches in length
- Utility knife
- Hot glue gun

Empty an oatmeal carton into the garbage. If there is food in the carton, store the food in a food container.

Position leaves over the top of the oatmeal carton opening. Overlap the leaves so there is no empty space. Continue until the entire opening is covered with leaves.

Cut a circle on the inside of the oatmeal carton lid, using a utility knife. Leave a 1-inch border remaining around the lid.

Place the lid over the plant leaves on top of the oatmeal carton.

Pull on the ends of the leaves to tighten them. Glue the edges of the lid to the carton, using a hot glue gun. Cut the hanging leaves on the side of the carton with a utility knife.

Tips & Warnings
Substitute the fresh banana or palm leaves with any leaves that have a long base and are at least 6 inches in length.
Warm the glue gun for three minutes.
Use caution when handling a hot glue gun. The tip of the gun is extremely hot.
