How to Make Knots for Friendship Braclets

How to Make Knots for Friendship Braclets thumbnail
Four basic types of knots are required when weaving friendship bracelets.

The colorful friendship bracelet may be made by those of all ages because it's an activity that is portable. Make friendship bracelets with embroidery floss. No matter what the pattern, the bracelets require a series of knots to complete them. The way you manipulate the colors of the floss and the order in which you knot them create the specific patterns. Practice your knots with just a couple pieces of string before attempting to make a full bracelet.

Instructions

    • 1

Knot your friendship bracelet's strings together and tape the top down to a stable surface, such as a table. This will keep it secure so you can make your knots. Each knot requires two pieces of string. The left piece of string will be string 1 and the piece directly to the right of it will be string 2.

    • 2

Create a forward knot. Take string 1 and cross it over string 2 to form a loop. Pull string 1 through the loop from back to front and pull tight. This creates half a forward knot. Repeat this process to complete the forward knot.

    • 3

Practice a backward knot. Take string 2 and cross it over string 1 to form a loop. Pull string 2 through the loop from back to front and pull it tight. Like the forward knot, this is only half of the knot. Repeat to complete the backward knot.

    • 4

Combine half a forward knot and half a backward knot to create a forward-backward knot.

    • 5

Start with half a backward knot, followed by half a forward knot to create a backward-forward knot.
