How to Remove Safari.app From Your Keychain

In Mac OS X, the keychain remembers all of your login information and passwords, for everything from your Wi-Fi to your social network profiles. Using the keychain can be extremely convenient, but once it remembers a password, the password stays in the system. This means that if you want to remove something from your keychain, you need to do it manually -- even for native applications like Safari.

Instructions

    • 1

Navigate to your Applications folder and then your Utilities folder on your Mac. You can access your Applications folder through your Macintosh HD icon on your Desktop or the left-column shortcut menu in your Finder.

    • 2

In the Utilities folder, open "Keychain Access."

    • 3

Locate “Safari Forms Autofill.” This is the keychain for passwords and login information you have stored while using Safari. You can either type it into the search form in the upper-right corner of the Keychain Access window, or click “Passwords” to expand the menu, and then click “Applications.”

    • 4

Press the “Delete” key. Press the “Delete” button when prompted by your Mac to confirm you want to delete the keychain.

Tips & Warnings

  • After deleting the keychain for Safari, you will need to manually enter your login information for any website on which you have an account.
