Instructions

    • 1

Breathe and take a moment to relax when dealing with a rude, confrontational or obnoxious coworker. Avoid getting worked up or angry regardless of the situation.

    • 2

Understand that you are at work and avoid taking your coworker's behavior personally. At times, your coworkers may experience an off day or may feel overwhelmed, so keep things in perspective and try to understand why they are lashing out or acting rude.

    • 3

Speak with a close friend or family member to vent about the issue with your rude coworker and to gain perspective on how to handle and resolve the situation. This will give you time to cool down and think of a plan for confronting the offender.

    • 4

Write down what you would like to say to the rude coworker using index cards and practice speaking and observing your presence using a mirror. Have a friend work with you to build your confidence if you are feeling anxious or nervous.

    • 5

Confront the rude coworker by asking to speak with him privately. Inform him of his behavior and how it is inappropriate while standing tall and straight, rather than slouched and defeated. Request that the behavior stop immediately and avoid further argument.

    • 6

File a formal complaint with your superior or human resources department if your rude coworker continues the behavior after you have confronted him and asked for the issues to stop.

Tips & Warnings
