How to Add a Wink Smiley to a Facebook Comment

You can comment on a user's profile only if she's on your friend list.

Sometimes using the written word to express your thoughts to a friend makes it difficult to convey tone. When you're leaving comments for a friend on Facebook, using smiley faces helps to express jest. You create a winking smiley face using the keys available on all standard keyboards, and it shows your friend that you're joking. You might also use the symbol to express flirtation.

Instructions

1. Sign in to your Facebook account. Locate the post under which you want to leave a comment.

2. Click the "Comment" link under a post that currently has no comments beneath it, or inside the "Write a comment" field under a post with previous comments.

3. Type a semicolon immediately followed by a closing parenthesis. The resulting symbol, ;), represents a smiley face with a wink. You can enter the symbol by itself or before, after or in between other text.

4. Hit the "Enter" key to post the comment. The original poster will receive a notification about your comment, as will any other user who has previously commented on the post.
