Instructions

    • 1

Remove all food sources outside your home which may encourage squirrels to frequent your property. Standing or hanging bird feeders are inviting sources of tempting food that should be taken out of your yard if squirrels are a problem pest in your area. Trash cans should always be sealed tightly to prevent rummaging by squirrels. Pet food should not be allowed to remain outside for extended periods of time.

    • 2

Trim away tree branches that offer access to your roof, chimney or windows. Squirrels are adept at climbing and leaping, and branches offer a direct means for the animals to invade your home.

    • 3

Cover chimney openings with metal mesh shields. The holes in the shield should be small enough to eliminate any possibility of squirrels sneezing through them.

    • 4

Place tightly fitted screens over your windows and doors to prevent squirrels from sneaking inside and reproducing in your home. Also check these areas for needed repairs.

Tips & Warnings

  • Use extreme caution when approaching baby squirrels. Mother squirrels can be extremely protective and may attack if they feel that their nest or their young are in danger.
