Depending on where you purchased extra content for "Spore," such as "Spore Creepy and Cute Parts Pack," the process of installation will vary. Steam, Origin and retail disc owners will need to take different steps to add new content to the base game.

Origin Edition

Load up the Origin client and log in to your account if prompted. By default, the client takes you to the Store tab.

Click "My Games" to switch to this tab. You'll see a list of your registered games, including "Spore." Once you purchase the extra content, the download begins immediately if the base game is installed. If you didn't finish downloading it since you purchased the content, it'll resume downloading when you log in.

Move your cursor over "Spore" to reveal a pop-up box. Click "Download" to download and install the game if it isn't already installed. This will install the base game and the purchased content.

Click "Play" to load "Spore" as normal. With the purchased content, you'll see the new parts when opening the game. You do not need to open the game through the expansion pack.

Steam Edition

Purchase the additional "Spore" content through the Steam Web store. If you want to use Steam, be sure that you own a copy of the "Spore" base game on that Steam account before making a purchase.

Open the Steam client and log in to your account. Switch to the Library tab if this doesn't come up by default, clicking "Games" from the drop-down menu that appears.

Right-click "Spore" and select "Install Game" to open up a new box if you don't have the game installed. If you do, the purchased content automatically downloads into your installed game. Click "Next" on the installation box when it appears.

Select whether you'd like a Start menu or desktop shortcut, followed by "Next" to begin downloading. Click "Finish" once the download begins.

Retail Disc

Remove the expansion disc from the box and insert it into your computer. If you haven't changed any settings, the disc should automatically start running.

Click "Next" until the installation guide asks for the CD key. You can find this in the manual where the disc was packaged. It's worth keeping an extra copy of this CD key in a safe place; if you lose it, you won't be able to reinstall the content unless you find it or buy another copy of the game.

Enter the CD key, being careful to type out the characters accurately, then click "Next" to move on to the next screen.

Select "Recommended" or "Custom" for your installation. This will let you pick the installation path, but you shouldn't need to change this, even if you installed "Spore" to a different location.

Click "Finish" when the game has finished installing.

Tips

Purchasing games like "Spore" from Steam or Origin allows you to keep the game registered to your account. This means you can delete and reinstall the game again later without having to find a disc or pay again.

Warnings

If you lose your retail disc, you can't reinstall the game. "Spore" discs cannot be added to Origin; this feature was only available starting in 2009.

Wherever you purchase "Spore," you'll need to get its DLC through that service. For example, Steam copies of "Spore" need Steam copies of "Cute and Creepy Parts."
