How to Dress for Model Auditions
Attending an audition or interview, for a modeling shoot is a huge achievement. While you may be over-the-moon excited, you may also have the question of what to wear lingering in your head. Do not fret. If you are not informed of what to wear to your audition, then plan ahead for a simple, yet stylish ensemble that is sure to blow the client away. Because a modeling audition is different than the traditional job interview, stick with the basics and skip the stuffy suit. Wearing the right items of clothing is the first step in landing your new modeling gig.

Look for bottoms that coincide with the weather, but are quick to remove. Colder weather options may include skinny or straight jeans, leggings or long skirts. Jeans should show off your figure, not conceal; therefore always look for body-hugging options. Skirts are acceptable all year because they are easy to slip on and off. Warmer weather options are more lax and include short to long skirts and shorts. You will want to show off your legs, especially if the audition is geared towards runway modeling.

Pull on a coordinating shirt that is body-hugging, not baggy. The ideal option is a tank top due to its layering capabilities for colder months and a simpler style for spring and summer. In addition, tank tops come in a rainbow of colors that coordinate with any type of bottom.

Wear appropriate undergarments for your audition. Depending on the type of audition, you may be asked to change clothing or remove your clothing. While you will never remove your undergarments you may have to model a swimsuit or crop top. Having the right undergarments is essential and should include a bra without padding and full-coverage panties.

Apply light makeup for the audition, unless specified otherwise by the casting director. Makeup hides flaws which may appeal to the client. Simple makeup such as a tinted moisturizer, light mascara and a little gloss is all you will need for the audition. In addition, if you are a natural, makeup-free girl then smear moisturizer on your face and forget the makeup.

Pull up a pair of jeans or slacks for your audition. Skip the baggy styles and step into a slim fit style such as boot cut or straight leg. Jeans are the most common item for men to wear to auditions because they are easy to pull up and take off.

Wear a basic white or black T-shirt to the audition. T-shirts should be well-fitting and clean. Skip T-shirts that are too baggy or large because these will give an unnatural appearance. In addition, men can layer a long-sleeve T-shirt over the short sleeve or wear a jacket over the T-shirt.

Pick your undergarments carefully. You want ones that are clean and tight to wear to the audition. You may be asked to remove your pants or pose in just your underwear if the audition is for an underwear advertisement.

Tips & Warnings
Call ahead to find out if there are any special requests for clothing. Depending on the type of audition you are attending, the client may want to see you in a specific item.
Walk tall when auditioning. To help, women should wear heels and men should wear a comfortable sneaker.
Always groom yourself accordingly prior to the audition.
Bring along makeup remover wipes in case the client wants all traces of makeup removed.
