Create a fairytale bed for your little princess.

Create a dream bedroom for your little girl by making a beautiful half-tester canopy bed with netting and a hula hoop. Half-tester canopies can be set over any bed, and cover the head of the bed only. Use plenty of pink or white tulle netting for the canopy to give a foamy, fairytale look. If possible, use a plain white or pink spangled hula hoop. If you can’t find a plain white hula hoop, cover it with white tape or paint it before use. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Hold a hula hoop above the head of the bed, against the ceiling. The hoop should sit about 12 inches out from the wall, and be positioned centrally over the head of the bed. Draw lightly around the outside of the hoop with chalk, then take the hoop away.

    • 2

Spread dust sheets over the bed, or remove the bed itself while you work. Mark crosses at six points around the chalk circle, to mark the position of the hooks that will hold the hula hoop in place.

    • 3

Drill holes through the crosses, and insert anchors. Screw in the hooks.

    • 4

Cut netting into two lengths, each long enough to reach from the hoop to the floor plus an extra 2 feet. Fold one end of the first piece of netting over one side of the hoop, and hand-sew it into place. Repeat for the other side.

    • 5

Slide the hoop into position on the hooks. You may have to turn the rings on one side outward to get the hoop past them, then rotate them back into place. Arrange the netting so that it flows over the head of the bed. Tie a bow of pink ribbon around each length of netting to hold it back against the wall.

Tips & Warnings

  • Embroider the netting with beads or faux pearls to create an individual look. Glue a ring of silver crowns cut from metallic card stock around the edge of the hoop.

  • Continue the princess theme with pink and white bed linen, curtains and cushions.

  • Make sure that the hula hoop is secure before your child uses the bed.
