Things You'll Need

  • Measuring tape
  • Panel curtain
  • Scissors
  • Pins
  • Sewing machine
  • Thread
  • 1-inch-wide two-strand shirring tape

Instructions

    • 1

      Measure the panel curtain and subtract 6 inches. Cut three pieces of shirring tape to this length.

      Pin one piece of shirring tape to each of the long edges on the back side of the curtain. Pin the third piece down the middle of the back side of the curtain. Each piece of tape should start at the bottom of the panel and stop about 6 inches from the top of the panel.

      Attach each piece of tape to the curtain by sewing in a straight line down both of the long edges of the tape. Sew the bottom edges onto the curtain. Sew over the bottom edges several times to be sure they are secure. Be sure to leave the top edges of the tape open.

      Pull the the two strings at the top of each piece of tape to gather the fabric. You can control the tightness of the gathering based on how tightly you pull the strings. Once you have gathered the fabric to your taste, tie the two pieces of string together at each length of tape and trim the edges.

      Hang the balloon shade curtain using a curtain rod.
