Make rod pocket panels out of lace to decorate a window.

Make your own rod pocket panel curtains to decorate any room in your home with a material or pattern that complements the room. For example, make your own curtains using leftover fabric that matches your throw pillows. Creating your own panels gives you the freedom to easily update the look of your room by swapping the current panels out for new ones at any time. Use the colors, patterns and textures that go with the rest of your decor.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the curtain rod and add 1 inch for seam allowance to determine the width of the curtains. Determine the length by measuring from the curtain rod to the floor -- or wherever you want the curtains to fall -- and add 2 inches.

    • 2

Cut the fabric. Fabric can be lace, sheer or any lightweight fabric. Consider the required care and durability of your chosen fabric before making a decision. Align the pattern so the panels will display the pattern correctly when you hang them, if applicable.

    • 3

Fold the fabric 1/2 inch along the length of each side to sew together with a long stitch. Fold the end in before sewing so there is no frayed edge. If you can't sew, use a fabric glue instead.

    • 4

Fold a fraction of the material from the top, then fold down 1 inch to create the rod pocket. Sew it with a zigzag stitch. Hang the finished product on a rod.

    • 5

Create a 1/2 inch hemline and sew it with a hemstitch.
