How to Put a Google XML Site Map Into Tumblr

Each time you create a Tumblr post, the system automatically creates an XML file. You use this XML file to upload the site map to Google in your Google Webmaster Tools account. The XML site map "pings" Google to tell the bot that a new post is available, and the bot crawls the map to index your new posts.

Instructions

    • 1

Open a Web browser and log in to your Tumblr blog dashboard. Click the "New Post" button and create a new post. Click "Publish" after you complete the blog post and the XML site map automatically generates and includes a link to the post.

Open a second Web browser tab and open the Google Webmaster Tools page. Log in to your account to open the main dashboard.

    • 3

Click the "Sitemaps" link in the left navigation panel. Select "Submit a Sitemap." In the opened window, type the location of the XML site map. The sitemap is always named the same in the root directory of your Tumblr account. For instance, if your Tumblr blog is "myblog," type the following into the Google Webmaster Tools site map location text box:

      myblog.com/sitemap.xml
