How to Make a Rainbow Macrame Wave Pattern Friendship Bracelet
Friendship bracelets come in all shapes and patterns from basic stripes to a slightly more complex wave pattern. To make a macrame friendship bracelet, purchase some embroidery floss which is a thin, colorful string that can be found at craft supply stores. A series of knots creates the friendship bracelet pattern. To make a rainbow pattern friendship bracelets, use the colors of the rainbow -- violet, indigo, blue, green, yellow, red and orange.

1
Pick five colors that you want in your bracelet. One of the colors won't be seen in the bracelet.
-
2
Cut two strings of each color, each about 65 inches long, and line them up next to each other. The two strings of color you don't want to be seen need to be on the left side of the bracelet. Tie all the strings into a knot. You will have 10 strings all together in five colors.

3
Tape the bracelet to a table or clip it to a clipboard to keep it secure. The strings from the left to the right will be labeled A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I, J. A and B will be the first color, C and D will be the second color, E and F will be the third color, G and H will be the fourth color and I and J will be the fifth color.

4
Create a backwards knot around thread B. Start with thread C and bring it over B to form a loop. Pull C through the loop and pull it tight. C ends on the left side of B. Repeat this with A. Take D and repeat the process, over B and A until the strings from left to right are C, D, A, B.
-
5
Repeat this process with the rest of the threads, in order, making backwards knots over threads A and B. Do this until threads A and B are on the very right hand side. You will end up with the strings in this pattern, from left to right: C, D, E, F, G, H, I, J, A, B.
-
6
Start working in the opposite direction with the very last thread you just knotted, J, and continue working backwards. However, this time make a series of forward knots. Make a forward knot around A then B and continue with the rest of the strings. Take J and place it over A so it forms a loop. Pull J through the loop and pull it tight.
-
7
Continue working the strings until they lie from left to right: A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I, J.
-
8
Repeat Steps 4 to 7 until you have a long enough wave bracelet.
