1. Paint your walls and trim white. The majority of buildings on this Greek island are a pristine white. Choose a clear white with little or no hint of other colors.

2. Use white or light wood furniture. Dark colors are too heavy for the peaceful atmosphere treasured in Mykonos.

3. Re-create the view. If your room isn't blessed with wall-to-wall windows or a breathtaking view, create your own. Search online for posters of the picturesque island village to hang on one wall, some as large as 48 by 64 inches. Look for posters of the island's famous windmills if you're looking for something more specific to Mykonos, or paint a mural that features the blue-green waters and white sand of the Aegean Sea.

4. Hang clean, light blue panels on your windows to mimic the restful blues of the ocean and sky. Keep the panels open so the sun can shine in. If your view is less than stellar, keep the panels open but cover the window with gauzy, white sheers.

5. Add accessories that highlight the best aspects of the area. Place a red shade on a table lamp as an ode to the red domes of its churches and bell towers. Use large seashells or driftwood as bookends and paperweights. Place a potted tree or plant on the floor for a jolt of natural color.
