How to Build an IPSW File From a ZIP
A file with the IPSW file extension is an iPod and iPhone Software Update File. You don’t build an IPSW file from a ZIP file, but rather you extract the IPSW file from the ZIP file. When the ZIP file is unzipped, the IPSW file is restored. The ZIP file is an archive of one or more files. No special software is required to unzip a ZIP file and extract the enclosed files from the archive. The ZIP file is extracted using the “Compress/Uncompress Folder” feature in Windows.

Copy the ZIP file to your desktop for easy access to the file.

Right-click on the ZIP file. A context menu opens.

Click “Extract All,” then the Extract dialog box opens.

Click the “Location” folder, and navigate to the folder where the files will be extracted.

Click “OK.” The IPSW file, plus any additional files, are extracted to the specified folder.
