DIY Cupcake Tablecloth

Use a cupcake as the creative inspiration for a sweet tablecloth.

A cupcake party is the perfect party theme for kids or even grownups. Cupcakes can be made out of any type of cake and decorated to reflect your favorite colors or party theme. Continue the theme with a specially made tablecloth. It's a simple way to incorporate cupcakes into every aspect of your party or event.

Things You'll Need

• Tape measure
• Large piece of felt
• Smaller felt scraps in various colors
• Scissors
• Template
• Craft glue
• Clear plastic tablecloth

Instructions

1. Measure the table or use an existing tablecloth as a template. Cut a large piece of felt to your desired dimensions.

2. Cut cupcake parts out of various felt scraps using a cupcake template. The cupcake should have three pieces -- the liner, the cake and the frosting. Any colors you desire will work but typical cake colors are white, brown or yellow. Icing colors can be pink, white, brown or yellow, while liners can be any color.

3. Make embellishments for the cupcakes, such as sprinkles and cherries, out of felt pieces. Other options are felt chocolate chips, marshmallows or candies. The embellishments should be large enough to easily glue on to the cupcakes.

4. Put all of the cupcake pieces together with craft glue. Arrange the cupcakes with the toppings in your desired pattern and glue them onto the tablecloth. A row of cupcakes would be cute going down the center of a square or oblong table or, if if you have a round table, going around the table's edge.

5. Place a clear plastic tablecloth over the cupcake cloth to protect the felt, especially if you are serving food on the table or using it for a birthday party.

Tips & Warnings

• Measure the diameter of a round table and add the number of inches of felt you'd like to hang over the side, called the drop. Multiply this number by two.

• When measuring a square table, measure length and width. Multiply your desired drop amount times two and add it to the length and width. An average drop is about 10 inches.

• To reuse the tablecloth, omit the glue and use the plastic covering to keep the cupcakes secure. You can make new decorations from felt and change the tablecloth with the seasons or to suit a particular event.
