How to Make a Cardbord B-2 Bomber

The B-2 bomber's flat appearance makes it stealthy

The Northrop B-2A, also known as the Stealth Bomber and the Spirit of Washington, is a military-grade plane designed for stealth missions. It was first revealed at the California assembly plant on November 22, 1988. If you would like to create your own B-2 Bomber, cardboard is an ideal choice for a lightweight design. Use a few different pictures of this high-powered jet to help you create each section.

Instructions

    • 1

Sketch out the triangular outline of the B-2 bomber. Draw this aircraft as if you are looking from above. Include the small, triangular notches in the rear of the plane to represent its signature look. Use light pencil marks to create the oval cockpit, vent scoops and different detailed features as they appear on the top of the plane. Trace all pencil marks with an ink pen to create a clean appearance, then erase all remaining pencil marks.

    • 2

Cut the outline of your plane from the cardboard with the craft knife. Move slowly down each of the lines to ensure a quality cut piece.

    • 3

Lay the newly-cut outline of the B-2 onto an alternate section of the cardboard. Trace this cardboard cutout to create an identical outline of the plane. Likewise, use the craft knife to cut this piece from the cardboard sheet. This will represent the bottom of the plane, and if you wish to detail this area, do so now. Clean up any detailed lines with a pen and eraser.

    • 4

Draw small rectangular vents on remaining areas of the cardboard sheet. Create these vents slightly larger than the drawn vents on your top cardboard piece. Cut each of these vents out of the cardboard sheet with the craft knife.

    • 5

Slice each side of one of the vents with the craft knife, but do not completely puncture. This action helps you fold the small sides and attach to your plane to create a 3-D appearance. Repeat this process for the other vents you created.

    • 6

Attach a piece of wood glue to the bottom of the folded vent pieces. Hold each vent to the detailed section on your B2 Bomber outline. Let these rectangular vents dry.

    • 7

Sketch out the oval-shaped cockpit of the B2 Bomber. Again, draw this feature slightly larger than the already drawn cockpit on the jet outline. Cut this round cockpit from the cardboard sheet very carefully. Apply wood glue to the bottom edges and fold down the center. Hold this cockpit piece onto the top outline cutout and let dry.

    • 8

Place the top outline of your B2 Bomber on top of the bottom piece. Staple the rear wing on both sides to secure, then staple along the edges to the front of the plane. Leave the rear of the plane open. Stuffing this cardboard model before sealing will bubble your jet out to further the three-dimensional appearance.

    • 9

Cut up a sheet of paper into small, thin strips. Wad up each of these strips into a ball, then stuff into the middle of the two cardboard outline pieces. Continue filling until the desired appearance is achieved. Seal the rear of your plane with staples to finish.
