People of different religions or different ethnicities wear different turban styles.

An Arabian turban is a type of headdress that can be formed by wrapping a long strip of material around the head. Arabian turbans are traditionally made from cotton or silk, but you can use a shirt made out of any material to create a faux turban. Place the shirt onto your work space with the button side facing up.

    • 2

Fold over the collar by 2 inches.

    • 3

Cross your hands and grip the shirt collar between your thumb and ring fingers. Pick-up the shirt and uncross your hand (while still gripping the collar) to flip the shirt over.

    • 4

Place the shirt over your head, with the center of the collar in the center of your forehead.

    • 5

Keep one finger firmly pressed on the front of the shirt to keep it held in place. Wrap the arm of the shirt that is on your left-hand side around the right side of the turban, towards the middle of the forehead. Tuck the cuff of the left arm neatly underneath the turban.

    • 6

Wrap the shirt arm that is on your right hand-side around the left of the turban. Tuck the cuff of the shirt neatly and securely underneath the main section of the turban.

    • 7

Arrange the back of the shirt so that it falls neatly down the nape of the neck.

Tips & Warnings

  • Iron your shirt if it is really wrinkled.

  • Use several small safety pins to attach the sleeves to the main part of the turban if they are not staying put.

  • The back of the shirt can also be tucked underneath the turban, however in the traditional Arabic style it is left loose.

  • Excessive movements will dislodge the turban and cause it to unravel.
