Live-brary.com is a digital branch of participating public libraries located in Suffolk County, New York. The website enables you to download a variety of e-books and audiobooks, as well as transfer book titles to your Nook. Along with basic genres such as historical fiction and humor, Live-brary.com offers collections for children and teens. Most e-books come in the Nook-supported .epub and pdf formats, and you must have a valid library card and the requisite software to check out reading material.

Instructions

  1. Download E-books to Computer

      Navigate to Live-brary.com and click "Required Software" on the left-hand toolbar. Under "Adobe Digital Editions," click the "Get Adobe" button. This will bring up the download page on the Adobe.com website.

      Scroll down to "Install Digital Editions 1.7.2" and click "Install." Click "Install" again when the security dialog box pops up, then click "Yes." When the installer pops up, click "Continue" to set your preferences for the installation.

      Type in your username and password if prompted, then click "I Agree" to accept the license agreement. Click "Close" to exit the installer.

      Activate the software by clicking "Continue" when the Setup Assistant window pops up. Enter your Adobe ID and password, or click the link to create an account online, then click "Activate."

      Browse for titles by subject, collection or genre via Live-brary's left-hand menu or pick from the new e-books displayed on the homepage. Click "Add To My Cart" next to the appropriate format for each individual title. When finished, click "Proceed To Checkout."

      Enter your library card number and Personal Identification Number into the boxes, then click "Sign In." Click the "Download" button beneath each title listed to transfer an ebook to your computer. The titles will show up in the "Borrowed" category in your Adobe Digital Editions library.

    Transfer E-books to Nook

      Connect your Nook to your computer and click "Authorize Device" in the Device Setup Assistant dialog box. Enter the same Adobe ID and password to authorize your e-reader.

      Locate your device on the left side of the screen under "Bookshelves." Click the "Borrowed" category under Bookshelves to access your library e-books.

      Drag an e-book title to your device icon to automatically transfer it.

Tips & Warnings

  • If Adobe Digital Editions does not recognize your Nook, close the program and relaunch it.

  • You can turn in an e-book before its expiration date by clicking the shortcut menu in the left-hand corner and selecting "Return Borrowed Item."
