Determine the size of the tent. This will tell you where to put the rods into the ground. Measure the length and width of the tent with a tape measure and record the measurements. You will install an aluminum dome rod at each corner of the tent.

Find a spot on the ground that is soft enough to install the aluminum dome rods. Mark the location of each corner of the tent on the ground with white spray paint. Measure from one corner to the other according to your measurements of the tent and mark each area.

Hold the first dome rod in both hands and push it into the ground. Twist it from side to side so it goes farther into the ground. Continue turning the rod until it reaches the desired depth. This will vary depending on the size of the tent and the size of the rod.

Move on to the second spray-painted area and repeat the process. Continue in the same manner for the other spray-painted areas until the four aluminum dome rods have been installed into the ground. Verify that all the rods are at the same height by measuring from the ground up.

Install the tent through the dome rods according to the manufacturer's instructions. This will vary slightly depending on what type of tent you are using.
