Awnings are a great way to stay out of the sun.

Awnings are most often found above a porch on the front or back of a house. By blocking direct sunlight, they make it sitting outside more comfortable. SunSetter brand awnings, a type of retractable awning that comes in various sizes, are made with a metal frame. Over time, the frame can become worn down and your awning can become damaged. Instructions

      Position a ladder at one end of the awning where it is attached to the house. Locate all of the screws and fasteners that hold the awning in place. Have someone else position a ladder on the other end to help hold and support that side of the awning while it is being removed.

      With a screwdriver and an adjustable wrench, loosen all of the screws and bolts holding the awning in place. Set all the nuts, bolts and screws aside. Continue removing all the fasteners and working toward the middle of the awning until you have loosened all the screws and bolts.

      Hold the awning on one side while your helper holds it on the other. Walk the awning down the ladder carefully and set it aside. Match up the new awning with the old one to ensure it is the same size.

      Walk the new awning up the ladder and press it up against the side of the house. Using the same position, attach the new awning. Tighten the provided screws and other fasteners with a power drill and an adjustable wrench. Refer to the manufacturer's instructions for specific information regarding fasteners and screws.

      Turn the knob on the side of the awning to open it up. Verify it is held securely to the side of the house and that everything is working properly.
