How to Emote in Warcraft

In the PC game "World of Warcraft," emotes are simply a way for your character to show emotion or action, without a manual explanation of what you are doing. All emotes display a small piece of text describing your action in the text box of those near you, and a number of emotes are also accompanied with sound or movement from your character. Some emotes change depending on whether you have someone targeted when you activate them. "World of Warcraft" also gives you the opportunity to create your own textual emotes.

Instructions

    • 1

Click on a target, which can be another player, a monster or a pet. If you don't want your emote to have a target, you can press "F1" to select yourself or press "Esc" to select no one.

    • 2

Press "Enter" to activate the text bar underneath your chat box. The cursor begins to blink in the box.

    • 3

Enter a slash into the text box, followed by the word that corresponds to the emote you want your character to express, then press "Enter." The emote text appears in your chat box. Some emotes -- such as "/drink" or "/dance" -- include a brief animation your character performs, while others -- like "/cry" or "/yes" -- have a brief audio clip that accompanies the animation.

    • 4

Enter "/em" and then press "Space" if you want to create an emote that isn't available in the game. The text bar changes to just the name of your character and your text appears orange. Type the emote text you want to display and press "Enter." The text appears in your chat box.
