How to Lock the Page Layout in Dreamweaver

You can lock the page layout in Adobe Dreamweaver to preserve the layout once you have perfected the design of your web page. First, save the page layout file as a Dreamweaver template, then lock each of the page layout elements to make editable regions non-editable. Resave the locked page layout file, with or without content, in the Dreamweaver template format. You can reuse the template as a starting point for creating Web pages with the same or a similar format.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the Web page you will use for the page layout file in Adobe Dreamweaver. Make sure you are in the “Design” (not Code) view.

    • 2

Click the “File’ option on the top navigation bar, then click “Save As Template.” The Site pop-up window opens.

    • 3

Click the site where the new template will be saved.

    • 4

Type a name for the new template in the “File Name” input box. Click the “Save” button. The file is saved in the selected site’s template folder.

    • 5

Click on the first region to lock. For example, click the box that contains the header in the page.

    • 6

Click the “Modify” option on the top navigation panel, and then click “Templates.”

    • 7

Click the “Unmark Editable Regions” option. The region is now locked.

    • 8

Repeat the process for each region in the page layout to lock.

    • 9

Click the “File” option and then click “Save” to save your template with the non-editable regions.
