Upload forms from Dreamweaver.

In Adobe Dreamweaver, a leading Web page design program, you upload forms to a remote Web server as you would any other Web pages. After creating the form page, you can use Dreamweaver's Put command to upload the form. First, you'll need to create a connection to the remote server in Dreamweaver's Site Setup dialog box. To create a remote server connection, you'll need the site's FTP information -- the FTP address, username, and password. You can get this information from your Web hosting company.

Things You'll Need

  • Adobe Dreamweaver CS2 or later
  • The website's FTP address
  • The FTP username and password

  1. Setup an FTP Server in Dreamweaver

    • 1

Click the "Site" menu, and choose "New Site." This opens the Site Setup dialog box.

    • 2

Type the site name in the "Site Name" field.

    • 3

Type the directory for the website files on your computer in the "Local Site Folder" field.

    • 4

Click "Servers" in the list on the left side of the dialog box.

    • 5

Click the "Add New Server" button, which is the plus sign icon. This opens a dialog box for defining and connecting to the remote server.

    • 6

Type the name of the server in the "Server Name" field.

    • 7

Type the FTP address for the site in the "FTP Address" field. Most website FTP addresses start with "ftp," followed by a period (.) and the domain name, such as ftp.mydomain.com.

    • 8

Type the FTP username in the "Username" field.

    • 9

Type the FTP password in the "Password" field.

    • 10

Type the web address for your website in the "Web URL" field. This is the address users type in their browser to get to your website, such as http://www.mywebsite.com.

    Upload a Dreamweaver Form

    • 11

Open the Dreamweaver HTML form you want to upload, or start a new HTML file by clicking the "File" menu and choosing "New." This opens the New Document dialog box. Choose HTML from the Type list and the desired layout from the Layout list, then click the "Create" button.

    • 12

Design the Dreamweaver form as you normally would. All of Dreamweaver's form elements are located on the Form submenu. Click the "Insert" menu, choose "Form" from the flyout menu, then choose the desired form element. For example, to insert a text field, choose "Text Field."

    • 13

Repeat Step two for each element in your form. Most forms end with a Submit button, which you can create by choosing "Button" from the Form flyout menu.

    • 14

Click the "File Management" button located beneath the menu bar. This button contains an icon of two arrows, one pointing upward, and the other pointing downward.

    • 15

Select "Put" from the drop-down menu. Dreamweaver prompts you to save the file. Click "Yes," then Dreamweaver uploads the file to the remote server.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can upload multiple files from the Files Panel. SHIFT + click each file in the panel's file list, then click the "Put Files to Remote Server" button and Dreamweaver uploads all of the selected files to the remote server.
