How to Hook an Altec Sub to an HDTV
You can hook up an Altec subwoofer to your HDTV to expand the range of sound that your home theater system produces. Although Altec speakers are designed for use with a computer, you can use an Y-adapter cable to connect the audio out ports on your TV to the single 3.5mm input on the Altec subwoofer. A Y cable takes the audio from the dual analog ports and transforms the feed into a single connector plug.

Turn off the TV and the Altec subwoofer.

Plug the dual end of the audio Y cable into the "Audio Out" port on the rear panel of the HDTV.

Connect the single end of the audio cable into the "Audio In" port on the rear of the Altec subwoofer.
