How to Move the Navigation Bar to the Left in Blogger

Using Blogger, you can customize the layout of your blog -- choosing the size and location of your navigation bar, which can guide your readers through the highlights of your site. Edit the design until you achieve a look that perfectly suits your preferences. If you want the navigation bar to be the first text your readers see on the left, you can make and save that change.

Instructions

    • 1

Type your Blogger URL into a Web browser and let the page load. Make sure you are signed in to your Google account.

    • 2

Click on "Design" to the right of the Blogger banner on top of your screen. You will be taken to an "Edit Layout" screen. Click on "Template Designer."

    • 3

Select "Layout" and view the "Body Layout" options. You can choose to have a single navigation bar on the left or have the left bar actually split into two different columns. Click on the option you prefer and click on the orange icon "Apply to Blog." The template changes will be applied.

    • 4

Click on "View Blog" to make sure your blog is in line with your preferences. As needed, you can return to "Template Designer" and this time select "Adjust Widths." Here you can increase or decrease the size of your left navigation bar in pixels. Click "Apply to Blog" after making any changes.

Tips & Warnings

  • For a side navigation bar, you may want to keep the size between 200 and 300 pixels.

  • You must click on "Apply to Blog" for your template changes to be saved. If you exit Blogger before clicking the apply icon, your changes will be lost and your blog design will return to its prior state.
